Nick is the co-founder and Managing Director of Truii, an Australian technology company that creates data-driven web apps that help people make better decisions about the environment and the community.
Known for his expertise in environmental modelling and environmental water management, Nick earned a PhD from the University of Melbourne and is the co-author of A Rehabilitation Manual for Australian Streams.
Nick’s love of the outdoors and his background in environmental science come together in his passion for developing software solutions that apply the best available science to natural resource management and environmental issues. He has spent more than two decades amassing a large portfolio of software solutions that support investment prioritisation, project design, capture and reporting for natural resource management projects as well as the assessment and reporting of environmental water requirements.
In recent years Nick and the Truii team have been focused on developing web apps that will increase investment into nature, primarily the Natural Capital Suite.
Bonny is the co-founder of Truii (along with Nick Marsh) and serves as the company’s Chief Operating Officer.
With a background in speech pathology, Bonny is a people person. She loves people, communicating and creating environments that lift people up.
A key achievement in recent years has been Bonny’s transformation of Truii’s working model through the implementation of a 4-day work week. This innovation has been a great success for team productivity and morale, and it’s seen Bonny praised as an early adopter in national news.
Bonny creates the systems that keep Truii humming and the conditions for the company to succeed. Her drive is to see Truii thrive.
Zach is Truii’s Chief Technology Officer. He drives software engineering activities and technology delivery for Truii’s SaaS and bespoke web apps and is a thoughtful and collaborative leader to the development team.
At Truii since 2017, Zach excels at solving complex and novel problems, particularly related to data analysis and computational programming. He has been the primary architect behind multiple innovative solutions, including Natural Capital Region, eFlow Projector and Eco Risk Projector. Zach’s models are currently used by numerous government agencies to inform significant environmental decisions.
After completing his Computer and Data Science degree, Zach stayed on at QUT as a sessional academic, teaching final year computer science courses. He has also presented at multiple conferences and co-authored a paper detailing the partial success approach to environmental flow reporting pioneered by Truii in eFlow Projector.
Tory is Truii’s User Experience Lead. She drives the company’s vision to make complex solutions seem simple and accessible to broad audiences. Tory leads user experience and design across Truii’s entire product portfolio, often guiding products from ideation to final delivery, bringing them to life.
A creative with a multi-disciplinary background that crosses research, science and commercial sectors, Tory’s varied experience gives her a unique ability to analyse and solve problems. She loves to create beautiful things that are intuitive and enjoyable to use, is passionate about UX design and fascinated by the psychology of usability and understanding how people interact with technology.
In her more than two decades of experience, Tory has contributed to the development of over 40 data-driven software and web apps. Tory is also an experienced science communicator, visual designer and project manager.
Truii’s Modelling Lead, Robin Ellis, is the driving force behind Truii’s data wrangling and modelling workflow. An experienced spatial data analyst, scientific programmer and environmental modeller, Robin is motivated by a desire to improve the sustainable use of our precious natural resources.
For more than a decade, Robin led the data analysis and model development for the Queensland Government’s award-winning Paddock to Reef Integrated Monitoring, Modelling and Reporting program. In this role Robin developed numerous translation and aggregation tools to combine data from disparate data sources and models, allowing for improved spatial and temporal representation of landscape and land management processes.
When Robin isn’t rounding up the Data Wrangling team, you will likely find him acquiring, analysing and interpreting remotely sensed data to better understand landscape processes, performing data manipulation on large vector and raster data sets, or communicating complex scientific and technical concepts to stakeholders from various backgrounds.
Nyssa Henry, Truii’s Reef Lead, manages collaborative relationships with the Australian and Queensland Governments, as well as the full suite of associated Reef web apps.
With over two decades of experience in catchment management and water quality science, Nyssa has extensive networks across the Reef sector and government. In her previous role as Chief Scientist with the Office of the Great Barrier Reef, she led the award-winning Paddock to Reef Integrated Monitoring, Modelling and Reporting program. Nyssa developed decision support and reporting tools used for investment prioritisation and impact reporting across on-ground land management programs.
Formerly the driving force behind the Great Barrier Reef Report Card, Nyssa is an expert in communicating complex science to wide audiences—expertise she now applies at Truii as the key advocate for Natural Capital Impact, Truii’s environmental reporting platform.
Truii’s Natural Capital Lead, David Waters, is the chief advocate of Truii’s Natural Capital Suite, a series of web apps aimed at increasing investment into nature.
Within the organisation, David works with the team to ensure the smooth delivery of Natural Capital Suite products. Outside the organisation, working with our stakeholders, is where David really shines, with most of his time spent supporting clients to apply the Natural Capital Suite to help make better natural resource management decisions.
David is a skilled and well-connected water industry professional with highly developed technical, project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
Prior to joining Truii, David served as the Catchment Modelling Program Leader with the Queensland Government’s award winning Paddock to Reef Integrated Monitoring, Modelling and Reporting program.
In 2021, David was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Southern Queensland for his 30-year contribution to the Australian water industry.
Thomas is a Senior Software Engineer who has been pivotal in the development of many of Truii’s key products, including P2R Projector and the Natural Capital Suite.
An incredibly skilled developer, Thomas is a highly valued member of the Engineering Team, who works quickly and carefully to solve complex problems.
Prior to joining Truii, Thomas led the development of Obzervr, a platform for work order and asset management.
Natasha is Truii’s Communications Manager and Digital Designer. She coordinates all external communications, supports the team with beautiful visual design and moonlights as the Brand Police Chief.
Working closely with the UX Lead, Natasha has contributed user research and interface design to several Truii products and was the designer primarily responsible for Natural Capital Market, the Coral Reef Rescue Portal, the Land Condition Assessment Tool mobile app, and the Truii corporate website.
Software Engineer, Lauchie, is a core member of Truii’s Engineering Team. A front end specialist, Lauchie excels in identifying and mitigating potential risks while optimising user experience and accessibility. He is also skilled in developing secure, scalable, and efficient web apps, ensuring high performance and reliability.
