Why we did it

A partnership of international organisations, including the Asian Development Bank, World Bank, European Union, European Investment Bank, Japan International Cooperation Agency, United States Department of State, New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Australia’s Department of Defence, is investing billions of dollars in improving infrastructure across the Pacific Region.

The Pacific region includes 18 countries spread across an enormous area, meaning the logistics of implementing infrastructure projects are incredibly challenging. To attract contractors to the region, a robust set of data is required.

The Pacific Regional Infrastructure Facility, funded by the Asian Development Bank, is tasked with attempting to co-ordinate data from each of the partner organisations on upcoming infrastructure projects and procurement opportunities.

Historically, collating data involved emailing spreadsheets to each of the partners, who queried their own internal data sources. But communicating that information to contractors was only possible intermittently, at seminars, or on request.

What we delivered

We created the Pacific Infrastructure Pipeline, an interactive web app, which consolidates information from multiple sources on upcoming infrastructure projects and procurement opportunities. These range from current procurement through to prospective projects identified for further assessment in National Infrastructure Investment Plans.

Users can explore opportunities via a map interface and filter them according to their specific needs and expertise, like location, contract value, sector (e.g. transport, water and wastewater, and energy) and timing. To strengthen business matching, the app also provides basic information and contact details on private sector firms in the Pacific region that provide services to the infrastructure sector.

The app includes a bespoke content management system that allows partner organisations to directly upload their details of upcoming projects and opportunities.
