The challenge
Investment in natural resource management is piecemeal and largely directed by the political enthusiasm of the day. There are few, if any tools available to help streamline natural resource management investment by connecting the disparate components of the investment pipeline.
There is a need to quantify the value of natural resource management activities across all the things that we are seeking to improve through investment (e.g. water quality, biodiversity, social, economic, First Nations and climate change).
This needs to be done at a large spatial scale to support region-level planning and help prioritise investment opportunities, as well as at individual farm scale to support project design and reporting, and to allow engagement with environmental crediting schemes.
We need to embrace the hyperlocal importance of natural resource management, yet create generalised solutions that can be applied to a broad range of problems across a variety of landscapes.
