The challenge
Each year, Queensland Government entities distribute between $2 billion and $4 billion in grants– to community groups, local governments, businesses, and others – to support the objectives and priorities of the government. As part of their auditing responsibilities, the Queensland Audit Office developed an audit report to provide insights into where Queensland Government grants go.
To support their audit work, the Queensland Audit Office required an web-based dashboard that would allow users to explore Queensland Government grants data and to complement their existing suite of interactive dashboards.
Our solution
The Queensland Government Grants Explorer is a web-based interactive dashboard, rich with data and visualisations, that allows the public to explore how Queensland Government grants are being distributed annually. Users can find their local government area to explore grants paid by the Queensland Government and compare to other local government areas, or they can explore the information by funding agency. The dashboard uses public information on the Queensland Government Open Data Portal to summarise the number and value of grants paid. It also categorises grants into the funding uses, recipient types and funding agencies.
